Hungary is a country in Central Europe located in the Carpathian Basin. Hungary has a temperate seasonal climate. Approximately 22.6% of land area is forested.

Biomass for heating in Hungary

Hungary has a share of renewable energy of 12.5% of the gross final energy, which is under the EU average. It is mostly provided by bioenergy and wind.

Concerning the age of its overall existing heating stock (including all technologies) it reflects EU average with approximately 55% of appliances being installed earlier than 2002.

According to the National Air Pollution Control Program, National emission reduction commitment for PM2.5 within 2020– 2029 (%) is -18%, however it is uncertain that this target will be met. From 2030 reduction should reach -55%.
